Day 9 - What Makes God Smile?
The smile of God is the goal of your life…
If pleasing God is our first purpose, it stands to reason that we figure out just how to do that!
One of the first people that we read about pleasing God is Noah. It may just be a good idea to focus a little bit on someone has been recognized and is a great example of making God smile.
Most of us know the story…The entire world was morally bankrupt and corrupt with everyone living for their own pleasures and not God’s. This of course was unacceptable and unfortunately it was an unredeemable situation. Before we look at what makes God smile and how we can bring him pleasure, perhaps it may be wise to see what does not make God smile and learn a very valuable lesson what not to do… focusing on living for our own pleasure may not be the best idea…
Anyway…according to the bible “Noah was a pleasure to the Lord…
How did he become a “pleasure to the Lord?” What was it about Noah that made him so special?
When we look at Noah’s life, we see an example of five different areas where God smiled on him. We won’t go into much detail with each point since the book addresses it, but here they are:
- God smiles when we love Him supremely
- God smiles when trust Him completely
- God smiles when we obey him wholeheartedly
- God smiles when we praise and thank him continually
- God smiles when we use our abilities
Noah had the entire world probably mocking him, scoffing at the crazy old man who was building a boat hundreds of miles away from the nearest place you could launch it. The one thing that Noah had that the mockers had lost, was his relationship with God. When God said, “build the boat get the animals and wait for the flood to come…” Noah said ok, let’s do this…
When God put his calling on our lives, do we dispute and justify what we believe we should be doing, or out of simple pure love and trust, we obey his calling thanking him and using our talents and gifts for his glory? This is what Noah did and it made God smile. As a matter of fact we are the benefactors of Noah’s love, trust and obedience today.
