Day 5- Seeing Life From God’s View

Apr 10th, 2008 by David | 0

The way you see your life shapes your life.

Day 5 reading starts with this. This builds on the truth of living with eternity in mind as the last chapter points out. Don’t you just love the answers to the question “How do you see your life?” (You have to read it if you haven’t yet…) One of the ones that is funny is: “Life is a 10 speed bike with gears you never use.”

It’s how we view life that shapes our life. If we view life as a big party, our primary value will be having fun… on the other hand what is a biblical perspective of how we should view life.

We see in Chapter 5 that there are three ways to view life. Life is a test, life is a trust and life is a temporary assignment. It is interesting that words like trials, temptations, refining and testing occur over 200 times in the bible. It’s also interesting how much we don’t like testing even it does produce character. How do you respond to the idea that “all life is a test?”

With life as a test, it sure seems like there should be other ways to test our faith other than we can’t feel God, problems come up, delayed promises happen, financial worries consume us, problem children act up, discord in the family, etc etc… If we don’t see God’s divine hand and PURPOSE in these things we can grow weary, give up, lose faith, get mad, get sad or give in. Seeing God’s purpose gives us hope to get through, what we are learning is important, an opportunity to grow and something that isn’t neccisarily for us, it’s for someone else. Maybe someone who is watching as you go through it…

Life is a trust when we have responsibilities, opportunities, relationships and resources that we have been entrusted with. We don’t own anything… What other areas do you see as a trust? What are the greatest matters God has entrusted to you?

Life is a temporary assignment. We are just “passing through.” The world and all that is in it is “passing away” Naked we came from the womb and naked we’ll leave. This can be totally liberating if you see it from God’s perspective and his purpose for you, totally terrifying if you don’t.
