Day 2 – You Are Not An Accident

Apr 8th, 2008 by David | 0

I wonder how many of us felt at times that we are a product of our environment, and the things that have shaped us are outside of our control.

After all, we did not choose where we were born, who our family is, the color of our skin, how tall we are, our personality, our physical abilities or even our seeming limitations. How many times have we heard that it’s “just fate?”

Our Day 2 reading opens with “You are not an accident.” We are reminded that it is not fate, chance or luck that brought us into this world, it was the unique and preconceived plan that God had for us long before we were even born. A plan formulated before the earth was formed.

God lovingly and specifically has designed us. He must have a sense of humor. At least we have someone to blame… honestly, it makes you think doesn’t it. How many of us have really come to peace with how wonderfully designed we are and don’t wish there was something better about us? What does this say to the God that has “fearfully and wonderfully” made us.

It’s good to be reminded that we are expressions of God’s love on the earth. This builds off of the first reading in continuing to help us to take our eyes off of ourselves and see the God that doesn’t make mistakes and that we are not an accident. May God help to accept this truth and be set free from the feelings of anything less.
